Centerfolds II

(2019- )

The imagery in the second Centerfold series (approximately 11x26”) is meant to draw attention to taboo topics such as female sexuality, sex work, and human exploitation. Additionally, undertones of race and class inequity are also present. Within the work, free-hand embroidery images taken from the centerfolds of pornographic magazines overlay graphics appropriated from National Geographic, which serves as a noisy background and adds to the commentary regarding human rights and ethics. At first glance, the pieces appear fragile and demure, given the transparency of the organza, but are resilient and shameless in their presentation.
